This is why I think schools and churches that allow a type of righteousness that includes keeping certain rules to creep into their teaching (ie. movies, music, dress, hair, alcohol, smoking) can do more harm to the Church than good. When you allow your righteousness to be "affected/determined" by these things then there is no way one will ever be able to see themselves as righteous when "bigger" things enter the picture (ie. lust, envy, anger, hate, murder, adultery ...). This type of teaching will either exhaust you and drive you further from Christ b/c you realize that you can't be righteous and you grow to frustrated with God and his unkeepable standards or it drives you to Christ and His righteousness b/c you realize how sinful you are and how desperately you need Him! A legalistic life does little to make Christ beautiful and desireable. I grace life makes Christ the most beautiful and desirable thing to look upon. John, thank you for your efforts in declaring the truth of the gospel.
