Our Mutual Joy? or Destruction?

Newsweek’s current top cover story is entitled: Our Mutual Joy.

The article deals with the same worn out argument which is: Opponents of gay marriage often cite Scripture to oppose gay marriage, but, what the Bible teaches about love argues for the other side.

So much could be said about the article but it is best to just read it in its entirety. The distorted theology espoused by the church leaders in the article, the lack of sound exegesis and the total disregard for serious interaction with Scripture is self-evident.

The greatest danger to the church is not from those outside who oppose, ridicule and persecute it. Rather, the greatest danger comes from those inside who try to distort the law and especially the gospel. It is these who trouble the church (cf. Gal. 1:7).

It is true Christ loves sinners. In fact, He loves sinners so much, He refuses to allow them to remain in their corruption. As Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11,

“9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
